Governance Challenges

How the Challenges page organises governance analysis

The Challenges page is where the community reviews on-chain governance metrics, assesses research-backed challenges, and rates data-driven findings. Your assessments here surface the most impactful governance issues and feed into the Identify and Prioritise stages that follow.

Goal

Surface the most pressing governance challenges in the Cardano ecosystem. By rating on-chain metric findings and research-identified themes, the community produces aggregate scores that reveal which governance areas need the most attention.

  • Review real on-chain data across 4 governance actor categories
  • Rate challenges on Impact, Changeability, and Sentiment
  • Review Data Analysis Notes that provide research context
  • Feed results into the Identify stage for actionable recommendations

The Challenges Process

Step-by-step workflow on the Challenges page:

1

Choose a Metric Category

Select one of four governance actor categories: Ada Holders, DReps, SPOs, or Constitutional Committee. Each contains on-chain metric charts from real blockchain data.

2

Review Challenges and Findings

Each metric chart has research-backed challenges (highlighted in amber) and data-driven findings. Challenges represent overarching themes identified from the research. Each has Data Analysis Notes providing supporting evidence.

3

Rate Each Challenge

Use the Governance Matrix to rate Impact and Changeability. Use the Sentiment slider for your overall feeling. Optionally leave a written rationale or mark "I don't know" if unsure.

4

Move to Identification

Once you have rated challenges, proceed to the Identify stage. The aggregated scores appear in the Identify side panel, helping you form concrete problems and recommendations backed by community data.

Features Explained

Three-Axis Rating System

The core way you express your opinion

Every challenge and finding can be rated on three independent axes, plus an "I don't know" option for honest uncertainty.

ImpactX-axis

How significant is this issue? Low (-1) to High (+1).

ChangeabilityY-axis

How feasible is it to fix? Hard to change (-1) to Easy (+1).

SentimentSlider

Your gut feeling. Negative (-1) to Positive (+1).

I Don't KnowToggle

If you are unsure, mark it honestly. This helps gauge assessment ability and keeps aggregate scores accurate.

Governance Matrix

Interactive drag-to-rate visualization

A 2D grid where X-axis = Impact and Y-axis = Changeability. Click or drag the dot to set your rating. The grid snaps to 0.5 increments. Try it:

On-Chain Metric Charts

Real blockchain data across 4 actor categories

The Challenges page presents 12 metric charts organized into four governance actor categories. Each chart visualises on-chain data and includes analyst findings with Data Analysis Notes.

Challenges & Findings

Two types of content to assess

Each metric chart contains two types of items:

Challenge Themes

Overarching governance challenges identified from research and community interviews. Each theme has Data Analysis Notes providing supporting evidence. These are highlighted with amber borders.

Example: "Proposals are complex to analyze" with notes about voters wanting expert analysis and CC members wanting templates.

Data Findings

Specific findings drawn directly from the chart data. Each finding describes a pattern, trend, or anomaly spotted by analysts. You rate each finding individually using the three-axis system.

Example: "Less than half of all votes contain a rationale, and even fewer are high-quality."

Sticky Chart Panel

Desktop reference while scrolling

On desktop, a collapsible panel on the left keeps the current metric chart visible while you scroll through its challenges and rate them. This lets you reference the data without scrolling back up.

How Your Ratings Are Used

1

Aggregated

Individual ratings are averaged across all participants to produce community-wide impact, changeability, and sentiment scores for every challenge and finding.

2

Visualised

Aggregate scores populate the Governance Matrix on the Challenges page and the side panel on the Identify page, giving the community a visual map of priorities.

3

Fed Forward

High-impact challenges become evidence for problems on the Identify page. Those problems feed into the Prioritise stage for scoring, and eventually into formal CPS/CIP proposals.
